Title: Spreading Hope – Hazras Charity Foundation’s Feeding Initiative for Almajiri Children

Introduction

At Hazras Charity Foundation, we remain committed to supporting vulnerable children and ensuring they receive the care and attention they deserve. As part of our ongoing humanitarian efforts, we launched a special Feeding Project aimed at providing nutritious meals to Almajiri children across multiple Sangaya schools in Kano State, Nigeria. This initiative is a crucial step in addressing the hunger crisis affecting these young children, many of whom rely on street begging for daily sustenance.

Background & Need for the Project

The Almajiri system is deeply rooted in West African history, where children are sent to traditional Islamic schools to receive religious education. However, many of them struggle with extreme poverty, lacking access to food, proper shelter, basic education, and a hygienic environment. Hazras Charity Foundation conducted thorough assessments and surveys to understand their needs and found that malnutrition is one of their greatest challenges. This realization led to the launch of the Feeding Project as an immediate intervention.

Project Launch & Execution

On March 27, 2025, Hazras Charity Foundation officially commenced the Feeding Project, benefiting over 300 Almajiri children across three Sangaya schools. The distribution process began in the afternoon and continued until 8 PM, ensuring that as many children as possible were reached. Our dedicated team worked tirelessly to provide:

Nutritious meals rich in essential vitamins and minerals.

Clean drinking water to promote good health and hygiene.

A structured and dignified meal-sharing experience to restore hope and uplift the children’s spirits.

Impact of the Feeding Project

The immediate impact of the initiative was overwhelmingly positive. The children, who often go for long hours without food, expressed joy and relief upon receiving their meals. Their caregivers and community members also appreciated the Foundation’s efforts, emphasizing the urgent need for such interventions on a larger scale. Beyond just providing food, this project reaffirmed our commitment to long-term solutions in tackling hunger, malnutrition, and the overall well-being of Almajiri children.
