Falah Afghanistan Welfare and Development Organization (FAWDO) is an NGO that was established in Kabul city within Afghanistan on 2015.  The reason to establish FAWDO was due to the constant internal conflicts and warlord fights that made it impossible for INGOs to continue their operations in the region. Therefore, the funder decided establish FAWDO for the betterment of the community in all over Afghanistan.           

Since its inception, FAWDO has been committed to uplifting the downtrodden, disadvantaged, and vulnerable funder in Afghanistan. FAWDO firmly believes that development is not limited to a single dimension but encompasses physical, social, and economic dimensions. To achieve its goals, FAWDO has been implementing an integrated model of development with a holistic approach, targeting various groups for the development of poor, vulnerable, handicapped and disadvantaged men, women, and children.

FAWDO's approach to development is based on the principle of sustainable development, which aims to improve the quality of life of the community while preserving the environment for future generations. FAWDO has been working tirelessly to promote sustainable development in Afghanistan, focusing on areas such as education, health and wash, agriculture development, women empowerment, poverty eradication, economic growth & rural development, peace & reconciliation, livelihood and humanitarian development.

Falah Afghanistan Welfare and Development Organization (FAWDO) is a national NGO, was founded on 2015 in Kabul Afghanistan, as a capacity building, humanitarian and development organization by local Afghan intellectuals and Diaspora Afghan community members. The purpose is to provide sustainable livelihoods intervention opportunities to support the most vulnerable communities both in the urban and rural areas of Afghanistan consequently will have access to better education, adequate primary health care, and employment opportunities, respect the ideals of human rights, peace, good-governance and eventually improved sustainable community development. The organization is registered under the Afghanistan Economy Ministry.

The vulnerable communities in FAWDO targeted areas and Afghans in general live in extremely poor and under-developed conditions. Their livelihoods are broadly based on subsistence farming and pastoralist with limited opportunity to earn wages. The predominant livelihood systems are;

 

 

(1) Pastoralist

 (a) Agra pastoralist

 (b) Agriculturalist: agriculture-based livelihood.

(2) Urban Residents and IDPs:

Successive conflicts, droughts and famine had eroded the livelihoods coping mechanisms of these communities. The negative occurrences instigated a huge number of civilian populations displaced internally and refugees’ camps in neighboring countries.

FAWDO’s humanitarian and development intervention programs are holistic, people-centered, community based and sustainable. Therefore, sustainable livelihoods approaches are adopted for all FAWDO strategic and short-term program focus in Afghanistan.

FAWDO sustainable livelihoods program interventions only add to the current humanitarian and developmental commitments in Afghanistan, by utilizing principally home-ground solutions to vulnerable community challenges and needs. FAWDO corresponds to the existing international and national humanitarian and development strategies.

The organization puts into operation participatory approaches, strategic planning and community mobilization to find solutions to community problems. It offers a range of programming and support in: Emergency Relief Response, Food Security and Livelihoods, Health, Formal Education, WASH, Development Programs, Micro-Enterprise Development, and three Cross Cutting Issues: Peace Building and Reconciliation, and etc.

Since inception, the organization was successful to implement a number of emergency and development projects in cooperation with the locals, UN and international agencies. These projects benefited a large FAWDO Organizational number of the most vulnerable communities in Afghanistan. It created credibility, good-track record, close collaboration with the all stakeholders; local authorities, communities and donors. It has now transformed into well-established NGO competent of implementing multiple projects simultaneously.

Overall, FAWDO's commitment to sustainable development and its holistic approach to development have made a significant impact on the lives of the people in Afghanistan. By

targeting various groups and dimensions of development, FAWDO has been able to uplift the community and contribute to sustainable development in the region.
