Since 1993, TURCEV has been a full member of Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE), a non-governmental, non-profit organisation. FEE is an international umbrella organisation with one national member organization per country representing FEE on the national level and in charge of implementing FEE programmes nationally. FEE has member organisations in 81 countries worldwide. TURCEV, as a full member of FEE in Turkiye, is a non-governmental, nonprofit organisation promoting sustainable development through environmental education and is active in implementing five FEE programmes: Blue Flag: Programme promotes sustainable development through strict criteria in the categories of Water Quality, Environmental Education and Information, Environmental Management, and Safety and Other Services. (531 beaches, 24 marinas, 5 yachts and 15 tourism boats have Blue Flag award) Green Key: Programme promotes sustainable tourism and aims to contribute to the prevention of climate change by awarding and advocating facilities with good initiatives mainly regarding water and energy usage and waste management. (116 establishments have Green Key award) Eco-Schools: Eco-Schools is an environmental management, certification, and sustainable development education programme for schools (837 schools have green flags and 1.072 schools are running the programme) Learning About Forests: Learning about Forests (LEAF) is an environmental education programme that promotes student’s knowledge of forests and the role of forests from a cultural, ecological, economic and social perspective. (350 schools are running the Programme) Young Reporters for the Environment: Young Reporters for the Environment (YRE) is a network of passionate young people educating for sustainable development by producing, engaging, creative, environmental journalism. (130 schools are running the Programme)
TURCEV coordinates and controls above five programmes from its Ankara main office and has 3 branch offices in Antalya, Muğla and İzmir. It has 18 professional staff who are responsible for the programmes. TURCEV is known widely in Turkiye and has members from different national institutions and governmental organisations, such Ministry of Culture and Tourism, Ministry of Environment, Urbanisation and Climate Change, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Education, Association of Turkish Travel Agencies, Association of Turkish Tourism Investors, Governorships, Municipalities and tourism establishments. With all these institutions and organisations, TURCEV has very close and cooperative relationship during implementation of its programmes.
