Summary
The campaign aims to establish an eco-friendly education system in five schools, focusing on renewable energy and community involvement benefitting 6,000 students.
Challenge
The war in Yemen has significantly impacted the community economically, socially, politically, culturally, and educationally over the past eight years. Women, youth, children, and persons with disabilities are most vulnerable to rights violations and do not have access to their basic education needs in a country with over 11.3 million children in need of humanitarian assistance (including 8.1 million children in need of emergency educational support) according to UNICEF. Due to the increasing number of displaced persons resulting from escalating conflicts, natural disasters, food insecurity, epidemics, environmental, and climate changes, there are more than two million girls and boys of school age out of school. The war has directly forced more than 400,000 children out of schools and damaged 2,507 schools. Child development becomes severely at risk when they do not attend schools or receive proper education.
Solution
The project contributes to alleviating the economic, social, health, and educational deterioration of rural communities by improving safe and sustainable access to free sustainable environmental education services (green education) tailored to the climate impacts for 6000 students aged 6-18 in Taiz countryside, Yemen.
It will innovate a sustainable environmental education system in 5 schools based on renewable energy, natural environment, and community involvement while building the capacities of local authorities, staff, and teachers in addressing environmental and climate changes' impact on education and raising general awareness in rural communities about environmental education and the green future.
