Summary

The campaign provided cochlear implant to 150 children living in the eleven provinces affected by the earthquake.

Challenge

The earthquake on February 6, 2023, caused extensive devastation in eleven provinces. The cochlear implants of children were trapped in the rubble, condemning these children to silence since that day. Currently, only Turkish citizens who have completed seven years of device usage are eligible for assistance from the government.

The children we have included in the campaign are those who cannot benefit from this procedure. One of these children is Elif, a 12-year-old girl living in Defne, Hatay. Elif has been unable to hear and attend school since the earthquake. Despite her hearing loss, Elif is very talented and creates beautiful paintings. Elif's family, devastated by the losses after the earthquake, first sought shelter with the concern of finding a place to stay. With all their possessions lost after the earthquake, Elif's family had no financial means to provide her with the cochlear implant device she needed. Consequently, children like Elif, whose cochlear implant devices have turned to dust, still remain in silence. These children, in their school years, are living disconnected lives socially and academically without their devices.

Solution

The initiative will begin in the 11 provinces affected by the February 6 earthquake, and support will be provided in collaboration with local NGOs operating in the region.

Through our campaign, we provided support for the replacement of cochlear implant devices for 150 hearing-impaired children living in the cities affected by the earthquake.
