Summary

The campaign aims to support rural women in the town of Agou, to collaborate on actions that will enable them to gradually acquire economic autonomy.

Challenge

Rural women in the Agou prefecture face a series of obstacles that hinder the realization of their full potential. They have relatively limited access to information and resources, including cultivable land, credit, inputs, and technical services coaching. Additionally, they lack proven professional skills and technical expertise. The gender barrier, particularly disadvantageous to women, is even more threatening in rural areas in Togo, despite the crucial role that women play in the daily survival of their families and communities. The vast majority of rural women in Togo live in socio-economic precariousness, which constitutes a significant barrier.

Faced with the global surge in food and energy prices, many households in rural areas have fallen into poverty, with a very abrupt impact, and women are the main victims. In the absence of adequate support from the authorities, they often have to fight alone and confront increasingly harsh conditions.

This situation is particularly desperate for rural women who, in their quest for independence and financial stability, must overcome numerous additional barriers, such as insufficient access to resources, services, and information, the burden of domestic work, and illiteracy.

Solution

The gradual elimination of these obstacles could help rural women escape poverty and move towards economic autonomy. To achieve this, we are organizing a crowdfunding campaign to support rural women in the town of Agou, aiming to carry out actions with them that enable them to gradually acquire economic autonomy. This cause is very important to us because rural women constitute the lever of rural development, and for this reason, there is a need to seriously invest in them.

We are currently seeking an amount of 19,680,000 CFA francs or $32,500 for the startup of our project. The goals of our project include:

  • Raising the associative level of women in the Agou prefecture: organizing and structuring by production sector (establishment of women's cooperative societies with true legal existence, networking).
  • Ensuring information, education, communication, functional literacy, and skills development in rural women of Agou.
  • Ensuring access to land and land security for women.
  • Promoting the economic activities of rural women in Agou.
  • Ensuring women in rural areas of Agou have access to value-added activities and markets.
  • Making available financial services (revolving fund or revolving loans) and non-financial services (support: training in commercial and financial management) for rural women in Agou from the second year of the project.
