Summary
The campaign aims to build and equip a new primary school in a village.
Challenge
Guinea is ranked 175th out of 189 countries on the Human Development Index (HDI) for 2018, with more than 50% of the population being illiterate. The average length of schooling is just 1.6 years (UNDP figures). Each year, tens of thousands of children leave school without acquiring basic skills before completing primary education, largely due to the remoteness of schools and poor teaching conditions.
Although the number of girls attending school in Guinea is increasing, it remains lower than that of boys. Many parents do not permit their daughters to attend school if it is far away, fearing risks such as rape and other dangers, which also affect young boys but to a lesser extent.
Solution
The ADHO ONG is launching a fundraising campaign to build and equip a new primary school in the village of Horewedou and the surrounding area within the sub-prefecture of Gongoret, Guinea. The goal of this initiative is to secure the necessary funds for constructing a six-classroom facility that will serve as a vital educational resource for 300 children in the region.
By providing these children with access to quality education, the project aims to address significant gaps in educational infrastructure and opportunities, ultimately enhancing learning conditions and promoting better futures for the young population of Horewedou and its neighboring communities.
