Campaign Status
New Campaign - Ongoing Offline: The campaigns have been recently launched and, thus still in the process of collecting funds.
Summary
The campaign aims to raise awareness among 10,000 women and men, focusing on the issue of gender-selective anti-abortion practices.
Challenge
Azerbaijan ranks first among countries that favor selective abortion, with a gender ratio of 115 boys per 100 girls among children born.
According to the calculations of the UN Population Fund, if the serious gender ratio imbalance in children born in Azerbaijan persists, by 2050, the annual number of boys born may exceed the number of girls by 12,000-15,000. The continuation of this trend poses significant risks, including gender inequality, violence, early marriage, human trafficking, and increasing crime rates.
Solution
To avert these consequences, it is crucial to value girls. For the sake of a fair society, equal opportunities should be created for girls. Initiating a widespread campaign to address this issue can help prevent selective abortions and regulate the gender ratio.
The campaign aims to prevent selective abortions, raise awareness, conduct advocacy campaigns, and collaborate with government agencies for this purpose. It will achieve these goals by conducting research and hosting significant awareness events in selected cities and regions, serving as pilots for the initiative.
