Campaign Status

Summary

The campaign aims to utilize surplus food and leftovers from meals, as well as fruits and vegetable produce, and transform them into products instead of allowing them to become food waste.

Challenge

40 billion riyals worth of food is wasted every year. This figure becomes even more significant when considering the tens of billions spent on the series of operations, procedures, and contracts for transporting waste, its collection, and its disposal. This includes establishing engineering cells and burying this waste, a process that takes a considerable amount of time. This situation results in a significant double loss.

Solution

Surplus food will be classified into four categories:

  • Surplus food with complete ingredients will be repacked into containers and delivered to organizations that aid those in need.
  • Surplus with incomplete ingredients will be recycled and processed into frozen meals. These meals can be stored for extended periods and can be quickly microwaved in under a minute.
  • Food leftovers and waste from vegetable and fruit shops that are still fresh will be treated and converted into feed.
  • Unusable vegetable and fruit leftovers will be transformed into organic fertilizer.
