Summary

The campaign aims to train 500 young people as youth vanguards for peace, as a response to violent conflict prevention.

Challenge

The primary challenge addressed by the Act of Kindness for Peace Campaign is the pervasive and deeply rooted violent conflicts that have plagued Plateau and Kaduna States in Nigeria, leading to significant loss of lives and properties. These conflicts, fueled by interethnic tensions and historical grievances, have created a cycle of violence, fear, and mistrust within communities, hindering social cohesion and sustainable development.

The initiative aims to confront these challenges by promoting peace, empathy, and understanding but faces the daunting task of overcoming deep-seated animosities and building trust among diverse ethnic and religious groups. Additionally, addressing the root causes of violent conflict requires navigating complex political, social, and economic dynamics, while empowering communities to take ownership of their own security presents logistical and organizational challenges.

Solution

Plateau and Kaduna have been embroiled in interconnected violent conflict over the years leading to the loss of thousands of lives and properties. The Act of Kindness for Peace Campaign will contribute to promoting peace, empathy, and understanding, fostering unity and community relationships, and addressing underlying tensions in Plateau and Kaduna State thereby transforming communities and building bridges for peace. The initiative will have profound and positive impacts on the communities, fostering stability, social cohesion, and sustainable development.

The campaign aims to raise funds to address and prevent violent conflict in Kaduna State while fostering peace through strategic program intervention including conflict prevention (early warning, early response mechanism), empowerment, and training of youth to become peace advocates and vanguard for peace. The prevention strategies will address the root causes of conflicts, promote dialogue, and engage communities in building lasting peace.

All donations will be used to carry out programs and interventions to prevent and address violent conflict in Plateau and Kaduna such as:

  • Training of youth as youth vanguards for peace,
  • Conducting early warning and early response for violent conflict prevention,
  • Empowerment of the communities to take ownership of their own security,
  • Facilitate dialogue among different ethnic groups in the two states.
