Our target group is the societies of the Northwest Region. Our solution is collective action to mitigate the impacts of climate change and address pressing environmental challenges. By bringing together the private sector and the vibrant energy of the Northwest Region's youth, we move steadfastly towards a more sustainable and greener future for the Northwest States of Nigeria.

Solution

We, the Orphanage and Less Privilege Education and Multi-Purpose Development Association (OLEPEMDAS), are on a mission to plant more than 120,000 trees across the Northwest States in Nigeria. Our partners include the Ministry of Environment, the Ministry of Agriculture, the Raudha Initiative for Sustainable Development and Empowerment, Mumtaz TV, and other organizations.

The tree planting project will set a precedent for the importance of tree planting to replace the cutting down of trees. This initiative will help curtail the effects of climate change and reduce the rate of desert encroachment in the seven Northwest States of Nigeria. The campaign is a collaborative effort among young volunteers and the private sector, aiming to tackle climate change challenges, enhance biodiversity, and improve community well-being throughout these states.


The tree planting campaign will be implemented across various states in the Northwest Region of Nigeria, with an emphasis on local community engagement, including schools and youth organizations. This multi-stakeholder approach highlights the importance of collective action in achieving the national target of planting 120,000 trees set by OLEPEMDAS. The initiative aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal 13: Climate Action and Goal 15: Life on Land, reflecting the commitment of the UN and its partners to these objectives.
