Since its establishment in 2004, the Institute has provided Human Rights training in North Africa and the Middle East to human rights defenders and public institutions, empowering them to access and use International Human Rights procedures, standards and mechanisms. GIHR has also delivered capacity building and advocacy services to different governmental and non-governmental organizations that protect the rights of individuals with a special focus on women and children in the African and Arab Region.
GIHR has been active in Sudan since 2004, rigorously working towards sustainability anchoring human rights in the State, through national awareness, capacity building and ensuring engagement with Geneva-based human rights bodies and mechanisms. Since the establishment of a Sudan Office in October 2019, GIHR has been able to contribute to positive change on the ground through various activities, including the development of the first Sudanese National Action Plan on Women, Peace and Security that took place between 2019 and 2020.
Moreover, GIHR - Sudan has signed Memorandums of Understanding with various actors in Sudan including the Ministry of Labor and Social Development, the Institute of Judicial and Legal Science, the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
