Summary

The campaign aims to construct water points to provide clean drinking water, as well as to supply school learning materials, nutritious food, and cover school fees for 300 children.

Challenge

Marvelous, like the other 300 children, is a malnourished 7-year-old boy caught in the socio-political conflict in Cameroon. He dreams of becoming a lawyer but has been denied education for over four years. Due to his family's financial situation and the lack of educational resources in rural areas, his parents cannot afford to enroll him in school. While he helps his mother hawk fruits, his peers in other regions are attending school. Marvelous's childhood is constrained by these circumstances, and he cannot play or live a normal life. Additionally, the community lacks access to clean drinking water, forcing him to trek long distances to fetch water, exposing him to risks such as abduction, crossfire, and potential death.

Solution

Better Earth International (BETA) aims to reduce the vulnerability of children to waterborne diseases such as cholera and prevent their recruitment into armed groups by:

Constructing water points to ensure that children have access to clean drinking water.
Providing school learning materials, nutritious food, and covering school fees to enable Marvellous and other children to attend school, receive proper nutrition, and avoid recruitment by armed groups and exposure to crossfire.

To achieve these goals and mitigate the risks of waterborne diseases like cholera, malnutrition, and recruitment into armed groups, BETA needs $107,000. This funding will support Marvellous and 300 other children by enabling their education, ensuring their safety from armed groups, and providing essential food supplies.
