Summary

The campaign aims to establish a Disability Center for training and empowerment and set up 6 Mobility Aid Banks.

Challenge

The project to establish the Disability Impact Fund faces several significant challenges in its mission to uplift Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) in Nigeria. Foremost among these challenges is the pervasive societal discrimination and marginalization faced by PWDs, hindering their access to education, healthcare, employment, and other essential services. Additionally, infrastructural barriers pose significant obstacles for PWDs, limiting their mobility and independence.

The lack of inclusive governance and decision-making further exacerbates their marginalization, denying them opportunities for participation and representation in societal affairs. Moreover, prevailing misconceptions and stigma surrounding disabilities perpetuate negative attitudes and behaviors towards PWDs, impeding their social integration and acceptance.

Solution

To address these challenges, the Disability Impact Fund proposes a multifaceted approach aimed at empowering PWDs and promoting their rights and well-being. The establishment of a Disability Center will serve as a hub for training, skill development, and empowerment programs tailored to the specific needs of PWDs, enabling them to gain independence and self-sufficiency.

Setting up six Mobility Aid Banks will provide essential assistive devices, such as wheelchairs and crutches, to enhance the mobility and accessibility of PWDs. Advocating for inclusive governance and decision-making will strive to ensure that PWDs are actively involved in shaping policies and initiatives that affect their lives, fostering a more inclusive and equitable society.

Furthermore, initiatives to promote inclusive education will aim to provide PWDs with equal opportunities for learning and development, breaking down barriers to education and empowering them to reach their full potential. Through these concerted efforts, the Disability Impact Fund endeavors to create a more inclusive and accessible environment where PWDs can thrive and contribute meaningfully to society.
