Challenge
The long-term impact of COVID-19 has affected all aspects of life, with children, especially those residing in Area C of the South West Bank, being among the most affected. Due to the pandemic:
- Children endured prolonged periods away from their schools.
- They spent significant time alone, away from reading, learning, and playing with their peers, disrupting their normal lives.
- The increase in domestic violence resulting from longer periods of home quarantine (Bhatia and others, 2020; UNICEF, 2020) has placed children in an even more volatile situation.
Solution
The Tanweer Center is committed to equipping children with the necessary tools to shape a brighter future. Our activities, including art workshops, English classes, library subscriptions for reading books, and opportunities to watch films and theater, are designed to foster essential skills during early childhood development. We aim to combine the joy of learning with purposeful entertainment, creating a space where children can not only alleviate stress but also enhance their capacities—all under one roof.
The Tanweer Center is actively working on the launch of its new project, "Let's Go Reading," utilizing the library currently in preparation. This initiative will serve as a multifaceted platform for children and youth to:
- Meet and gather.
- Engage in reading.
- Participate in educational activities.
- Enjoy film screenings and theater events.
We recognize that reading opens minds, and we strongly believe that cultivating the habit of reading should commence at a young age. Drawing serves as a stress-relieving activity, fostering imagination in children. Attending theater enables direct interaction with the play, enhancing self-confidence and providing an outlet for grief and pressure. English is viewed as the key to globalization. Lastly, it is a well-established notion that healthy bodies contribute to perfect minds.
