Summary

The campaign aims to provide educational support materials such as school uniforms, bags, books, and shoes to 1,000 children in the conflict-affected region.

Challenge

The Boko Haram insurgency has wreaked havoc in this region, leaving thousands of households displaced and livelihoods shattered. Many families have been forced to flee their hometowns, leaving behind their means of support for their children's education. As a result, most parents are unable to provide for the educational needs of their children, and these children find themselves faced with limited access to education and little hope for a brighter future. Thousands of children affected by the Boko Haram insurgency in Northeast Nigeria are still out of school in key states of the subregion despite efforts by government and humanitarian agencies. Our research indicates that education is the backbone of every peaceful community and its development. Therefore, empowering education is the only pathway for children to rebuild hope and resilience.

Solution

The campaign is targeting two conflict-affected Local Government Areas (LGAs) of MMC and Jere. Our aim is to support 1000 vulnerable children in these areas with essential school learning materials, including uniforms, writing materials, shoes, and bags. By addressing these immediate needs, we aim to help them further their education.

To achieve our goal, the Green Generation Initiative (GGI), in collaboration with the Borno State Government Agency (SUBEB), will focus on a series of activities. This includes an in-depth needs assessment to identify the specific learning needs and materials required by conflict-affected children, tailored to their education system.

We will conduct community mobilization, sensitization, and awareness campaigns, engaging various stakeholders and agencies to ensure our efforts are locally accepted, synchronized, effective, and sustainable. We will rally for support from all corners of society, ensuring it is tailored to the education system.

We will procure locally produced school learning materials such as uniforms, bags, books, and shoes in assorted sizes, directly enhancing local businesses, and distribute them to the 1000 vulnerable children identified. Finally, we will monitor the impacts of this intervention and document lessons learned.

Our objectives are:

  • To ensure quality and accessible education for every child by providing basic learning materials, including uniforms, bags, books, and shoes, to 1000 conflict-affected children, thereby ensuring educational standards are met in Borno State.
  • To work collaboratively with community stakeholders to reinforce resilience and provide sustainable development support for children and women in the areas of education, protection, peacebuilding, and climate change.

Join us in our mission to rebuild hope, resilience, and a brighter future for these learners. Together, we can empower education and become a change maker!
