Ongoing Offline: The campaign is currently ongoing offline and, thus still in the process of collecting funds.

Summary

The campaign aims to enhance a biological fertilizer production unit, with the goal of providing an eco-friendly alternative to chemical fertilizers through the recycling of biodegradable waste.

Challenge

This project emerged from the recognition of the challenges faced by farmers with NPK mineral fertilizer and urea, which are more costly and less readily available in the market. Today, agriculture in sub-Saharan countries is facing problems with issues of underproduction, not only due to poor agricultural practices but also, in the long term, due to the excessive use of these expensive chemical fertilizers in the market. While chemical fertilizers enable producers to achieve higher yields, they do not align with a sustainability-focused approach, and they have a significant detrimental impact on the soil.

Solution

The primary goal of the ASTD campaign project is to secure funding for the fortification of a biological fertilizer production facility. This specialized facility focuses on gathering biodegradable waste to manufacture organic fertilizer, providing a more efficient and sustainable alternative to chemical fertilizer.

The project originated from the recognition of challenges faced by farmers in accessing NPK mineral fertilizer and urea, which are costlier and less accessible in the market. Capitalizing on the rapid urbanization of Ouagadougou, the project aspires to be a trailblazer in producing organic fertilizers derived from biodegradable waste and subsequently exploring the conversion of non-biodegradable waste.
