Yemeni Development Network for NGOs is a leading non-profit and non-governmental organization operating in Yemen. YDN was mainly established to respond to the urgent need for a specialized entity for building the capacity of the community social organizations and to ensure their active participation and proper fulfillment of their responsibilities. Currently, YDN has 10 active offices with operation staff in 9 governorates and coordination offices in the rest of the governorates. YDN excelled in maintaining smooth cooperation and coordination with all the actors, be it government bodies, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), or local communities. Such country-wide existence of YDN catalyzes prompt responses and easy access to any area across Yemen under any circumstances.
For more than 17 years, YDN has been successfully accomplishing its goals of improving Yemeni community social organizations. YDN has been actively involved in several interventions through which it gained a deeper understanding of the humanitarian and development context in Yemen.
In 2014, YDN effectively utilized its outstanding record of experience and resources to respond to the devesting humanitarian crisis caused by war and conflict. The response was manifested by providing life-saving services through implementing scores of humanitarian projects in the most affected areas across Yemen. In all its interventions, YDN maintained the maximum levels of inclusion of local communities and partners in decision-making, planning, implementation, and evaluation.
YDN is run by highly qualified teams of experts and operated by experienced staff. The interdisciplinary composition of the experts and staff makes them the cornerstone of YDN's success in all humanitarian and development interventions. YDN continues to exercise the best operational practices and keeps abreast with the up-to-date manuals and policies, thus boosting its transparency, accountability, and good governance.
YDN focuses on the promotion of rights approaches in economic and social development through rights principle consolidation in the economic and social development through implementing advocacy programs and promoting community participation and good governance. In addition, strengthening governance approach in CSOs through evidence, approaches, training, institutional assessment, and technical support provision.

YDN activities:
In health program: the conducted activities included the provision of free medical services including primary and secondary health care services, reproductive health services, pediatric services and vaccines, education and awareness services through supporting health facilities and medical mobile teams with medicines, supplies, furniture, medical equipment, rehabilitation services, operational costs and supporting the health staff with incentives and capacity building in addition to the response to COVID-19 pandemic through train the health workers on infection prevention and control (IPC) and case definition, providing personal preventive equipment (PPE), and risk communication and community engagement RCCE through train volunteers from the community in COVID-19 prevention and control and educating the community. The health facilities were supported based on the national guidelines, cluster updated guidelines, and MSP standards.
In nutrition program: the conducted activities included supporting community-based management for acute malnutrition (CMAM) which includes treatment and preventive services including screening for malnutrition among under-five-year children and pregnant and lactating women (PLW), treating acute malnourished children and PLW, providing children with deworming drugs, micronutrient powder, and vitamin A as prevention, providing PLWs with folic acid and iron, counseling, and education sessions for PLW on infant and young child feeding practices, home care of sick children, immunization, key WASH messages, and cholera prevention. All these services are through capacitating and supporting the health workers in the targeted health facilities and medical mobile clinics and community health volunteers (CHVs) to provide services.
In food security and livelihood program: YDN conducts activities from the first line response like food and cash distribution and distribution of agriculture and livestock input.
In WASH program: the conducted activities included well drilling and operating, establishing permanent pumps, water tracking, providing drinking water to IDPs, cholera case monitoring, basic and consumable hygiene kits distribution, water sources rehabilitation, water networks rehabilitation, construction latrines, and conducting awareness sessions.
In shelter and CCCM program: the conducted activities included the provision of NFIs, emergency shelters, winterization, and T-shelter to displaced people residing in collective centers, makeshift shelters, and informal settlements. YDN considered the use of rental subsidies and cash assistance for IDPs to support them and cover their needs.
In education program: the conducted activities included the provision of educational supplies, the establishment of temporary learning spaces, minor rehabilitation of schools, distribution of school kits, providing educational needs, educational kits, double kits, and enhancing the capacity and quality of schools by supporting the computer labs, science laboratories, provide training to teachers in PSS, providing incentives to teachers, and provision of teacher's bags.
In protection program: the conducted activities included training the humanitarian workers on gender, gender-based violence (GBV), and protection against sexual exploitation and abuse (PSEA) issues, as well as raising awareness of the risks and damages of war remnants in conflict areas, setting up psychological support programs and workshops in the rules of international humanitarian low. Also, YDN has included protection issues in the implemented projects.
YDN focused on institutional building for NGOs program designed to support NGOs and develop effective and well-managed organizations that best use their human and financial resources to maintain business sustainability.
In economic empowerment program: the conducted activities included providing capacity building for youth, youth development for the labor market, and establishing, furnishing, and operating three vocational training institutes.
In Peacebuilding and Good Governance Program: the conducted activities included providing capacity building for staff and partners to focus on human rights, capacity building for CSOs, advocacy for the involvement of youth, women empowerment, expressing needs and awareness and guidance, strengthening the partnership between community frameworks, CSOs, and local authorities in emergency response, and empower the Independent Youth to effectively participate in determining their future in Yemen by unifying their components during and after the transition period.
