CAWC Background:

Central Afghanistan Welfare Committee (CAWC) is a national Afghan non-governmental organization (NGO) based in Kabul. It carries out development and humanitarian projects in the central, northern and eastern region (including Daikundi, Bamyan, Wardak, Samangan, Nangarhar, Kuner, Lghman, Nuristan and Kabul) of Afghanistan and other isolated areas of the country, operating from its main Kabul office and four regional Offices and sub-offices in Daikundi Bamyan, Smangan and Nangarhar.

CAWC was established in 1989 in Peshawar, Pakistan, initially as part of a small volunteer group that served the people of the central regions of Afghanistan and Afghan refugees in Pakistan. CAWC started its development activities in central Afghanistan in 1992, working in rural Wardak province and later on expanding into the provinces of Bamyan, Ghazni, Parwan, Daikundi, Kabul and Badakshan. In 2002, CAWC shifted its main office from Peshawar to Kabul, but continued to provide a range of services to isolated rural communities with the aim of empowering people, men and women, and promoting sustainable integrated rural development.
