Ghadaq for development

Ghadaq for Development (GHFD) is a women-led Yemeni non-governmental organization officially established in 2015 by a group of humanitarian and development professionals committed to promoting sustainable development, community resilience, and improved access to essential services for vulnerable and conflict-affected communities across Yemen.

Since its establishment, GHFD has developed a strong operational presence and a diversified portfolio of humanitarian and development programmes implemented in partnership with United Nations agencies and international organizations, including UNDP, FAO, UN-Habitat, ILO, OCHA, GCERF, GIZ, ARK Group, and Pure Hands. Through these partnerships, GHFD has strengthened its institutional, technical, field-management, monitoring, and stakeholder-coordination capacities.

GHFD has implemented and managed more than 33 projects across 13 governorates and 45 districts, covering water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH), food security and agriculture, livelihoods and economic empowerment, climate change adaptation, community infrastructure, capacity building, protection, education, nutrition, and vocational skills development.

Of particular relevance to water-resources and climate-resilience assignments, GHFD has experience in water and irrigation-related interventions, watershed and community infrastructure rehabilitation, water harvesting, agricultural resilience, climate-adaptation programming, field assessments, institutional data collection, stakeholder consultations, and community-based planning. The organization has worked with FAO on water-related and agricultural resilience interventions and has implemented assessment, planning, and institutional-strengthening assignments with UNDP and UN-Habitat, including activities in Taiz Governorate.

GHFD also has established experience in conducting structured field assessments, key informant interviews, focus group discussions, community consultations, surveys, digital data collection using KoboToolbox, field verification, and coordination with government authorities, local institutions, communities, and other stakeholders. This operational capacity enables GHFD to support evidence-based planning in complex and data-scarce environments.

Through its offices and field presence in Yemen, GHFD is able to mobilize national and local teams, facilitate access to relevant stakeholders and institutions, and support the verification and contextual interpretation of technical information. Its experience operating across different administrative and conflict-affected contexts provides an important foundation for assignments requiring conflict-sensitive stakeholder engagement, local data validation, and coordination with national and sub-national authorities.

GHFD's institutional approach combines local knowledge, field access, evidence-based programming, stakeholder participation, accountability, and sustainability. The organization places particular emphasis on strengthening local institutions and ensuring that technical and development interventions are grounded in the realities, priorities, and capacities of the communities and institutions they are intended to support.

GHFD works to enhance the development, resilience, and stability of local communities by improving access to essential services, strengthening institutional and community capacities, and empowering Yemeni people—particularly women, youth, and vulnerable groups—to participate effectively in decisions that contribute to sustainable and peaceful development.
