Al Saraya Center for Community Service is a non-profit community development organization that operates in the heart of the Old City of Jerusalem. Since its establishment in 1991, Al Saraya has dedicated all its activities and programs to strengthen the steadfastness of the Jerusalemite community under the vision to create “An Empowered Jerusalemite Community living in Dignity”. The Center’s mission is "to promote societal change and resilience by developing the skills, knowledge, and abilities of children, women, and youth through comprehensive and innovative learning mechanisms".
The Center was established in response to the urgent need to strengthen the Arab presence in Jerusalem and the Old City in particular in order to improve the cultural, social, educational and economic conditions of the population, and contribute to minimizing the effects of systematic Israeli policies aimed at Judaizing the city.
The Center strongly believes in the importance of developing life skills for its targeted groups of children, women and youth. Furthermore, it believes in its vital role in bringing about societal change among the Jerusalemite community to be positively resilient, dignified and able to persevere in Jerusalem despite the threats faced by the occupation.
Al Saraya Center carries out its activities through four major programs:
• The Women Empowerment Program:
• The Community Development Program:
• The Children Literature Program
• The Academic and Social Support Program
