As the consequences of human activity on the environment have come to the attention of the globe, there has been an increase in concern about sustainability in recent years. This concern is triangular, taking into account how human activity affects society, the economy, and the environment, or the “3Ps”: people, profit, and planet. The idea that current generation should live not just for itself but also for the future motivates the push for sustainability. As a result, there has been significant study, invention, and worldwide effort put into building a sustainable world.

Governments at the local, national, and international levels have undertaken a number of initiatives to address this requirement by establishing goals, targets, and commitments for a sustainable ecology. Nonetheless, in these youths are, however, frequently viewed in these initiatives more as vulnerable groups than as important players in advancing these commitments. The bulk of young people are therefore left behind or are unaware of their role in achieving these global goals. Despite the obvious obstacles, the few young people from Nigeria and other parts of the world who have taken on this work and engaged have delivered outcomes above and beyond expectations. This suggests that young people are indeed frontiers and a source of hope for resolving the common environmental concerns.

Youth for Environmental Sustainability and Development (YESD) is a program that encourages young people to engage actively in advocacy, activism, and research for environmental sustainability.

YESD places a high priority on empowering young people in their many fields to participate in transdisciplinary action for a sustainable future since it sees young people as crucial stakeholders.

Our thematic areas of interest are: advocacy, research, capacity building, climate change, water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH), energy management, and waste management.
