Challenge
The ongoing socio-political crisis in Cameroon's Anglophone regions has exacerbated the WASH crisis in Fako Division, located in the Southwest Region. Internally displaced persons, host communities, returnees, and children are grappling with a severe shortage of basic necessities, including clean water, sanitation facilities, and hygiene education. This lack of resources exposes them to waterborne diseases and impedes their ability to lead healthy lives.
Imagine waking up every morning without clean water to drink or wash with. You have to walk for hours just to find a dirty river or pond, knowing that the water could make you sick, but with no other choice. This is the harsh reality for thousands of people in Cameroon's Fako Division, particularly those affected by conflict and displacement due to the ongoing socio-political crisis in the North West and South West Regions.
Ndolo, a young mother from Buea, shares her story: "My children are always sick. The water from the stream only makes them weaker. I worry every time they drink it. I know it's not right, but what can I do? They often go to school late because there are so few places to fetch water."
Solution:
We can make a difference. SUDEVIN, a non-profit organization with over 13 years of experience in Cameroon working with vulnerable communities, is launching the "Clean Water, Brighter Futures" project. Our goal is to provide clean water and promote good hygiene practices for 2,000 people in Fako Division.
We will supply essential hygiene kits, including soap, buckets, jerrycans, and water purification tablets, to 2,000 individuals. Additionally, we will conduct three hygiene education workshops led by trained professionals. These workshops will teach families how to stay healthy and prevent waterborne diseases. Finally, we will support communities in critical need by providing a borehole and rehabilitating existing water points to ensure access to clean drinking water.
SUDEVIN has a proven track record of success. Over the past decade, we have assisted more than 20,000 Cameroonians through water, sanitation, hygiene, education, and livelihood initiatives. Our dedicated team is passionate about making a meaningful difference.
