Education in EmergencyThe Problem
In Burkina Faso and French-speaking West Africa, less than 2% of public and private schools offer English as a foreign language or other adequate extracurricular activities. In the curricula, there is also a lack of courses in leadership, entrepreneurship, science and technology.
The Solution
The Zoe Academy is an out-of-school educational centre that builds the capacities of school children (from 6 to 17 years old) in English, leadership, entrepreneurship, science, technology, and a wide variety of life skills. To do this, it uses a playful and stimulating approach. The initiative has equipped classes with computers and other technology-related tools to enable our participants the best from our different programs. The Zoe Academy first started with nine kids (beneficiaries) in February 2021. Today, the Academy has trained more than 100 kids and is preparing for two summer sessions where a total number of 120 kids are expected.
Impact
Zoe Academy's social mission is to provide access to quality, hands-on education that will help improve the language skills and creativity of children who participate in the academy's activities. Zoe Academy also plans to open inclusive centres that will serve children from disadvantaged families, thereby contributing to the reduction of inequalities.
