Thematic Focus

Building Community Resilience

The Problem

There has been a downsizing of agricultural lands belonging to farmers who cultivate coffee due to inflation and internal conflict in Yemen. Fuel needed for generators of water pumps has also become more expensive. Additionally, farmers lack experience in marketing their products. These have lead to a series of economic challenges and displacement of rural communities.

The Solution

The Enjaz Foundation for Development aims to raise the efficiency of farmers through agricultural training. It also uses alternative energy sources by installing solar energy pumps to irrigate agricultural crops. It will expand agricultural land reclamation and reduce desertification and other effects of climate change by planting 600 coffee seedlings in the targeted area. It will take advantage of rainwater through the construction of aggregate tanks, which will be used during other seasons to irrigate agricultural crops. The project will also support the marketing and selling of coffee products through a factory that assembles, sorts and packages the product. The project seeks to benefit 30 farmers in the Lahi governorate.

Impact

The project seeks to promote social cohesion in the rural community by reducing the displacement of farmers from the countryside. This would also reduce crowding in cities. It aims to provide economic empowerment and increase agricultural productivity of small-scale food producers, in particular women and indigenous people.
