Thematic Focus

Education in Emergency

The Problem

Although parental involvement in children’s education is widely believed to bolster student performance, many parents face barriers in supporting their children’s schooling. Psychological, informational, and time constraints often prevent greater parental engagement. Before the Covid-19 pandemic, more than half of all primary school-aged children couldn’t meet the minimum proficiency standards in reading and mathematics. This global learning crisis has been worsened by the pandemic.

The Solution

Al-Amal Feminine Association's project will explore innovative, evidence-driven educational solutions to help bridge the gap in achieving good quality learning outcomes. The program is designed to provide parents with quick, easy-to-implement educational activities to do with their children to develop their literacy, numeracy, and socio-emotional skills, necessary for success in school. The activities suggested through text and audio messages are easy to implement in everyday life. The pilot project will start with disadvantaged parents and caregivers of kids, aged seven to ten, before expanding to an open-source platform that provides actionable guidance for other Moroccan NGOs and educational actors.

Impact

The parental engagement program is an enabler for quality education. It aims to ensure that the girls and boys, benefitting from the program, improve their literacy and numeracy levels. This aims to reduce the learning gaps between the poorest and the richest children. Also, through the power of partnerships, they will seek to work collectively with different players around the world to ensure that every child receives good quality education and acquires the skills needed to thrive and build a bright future.
