Literate PD Khan aims to train young volunteers and raise awareness about the constitutional right to education through campaigns
The Problem
60% of children in Pind Dadan (PD) Khan in Pakistan are unable to complete their primary education due to economic constraints of the family and a lack of awareness about the importance of education. Currently, there is a need to provide access to quality education, improve teachers’ capacity and build missing facilities. What is more, the mothers of these children often live in poverty, and are home-bound domestic labourers who are unable to support the education of their children.
The Solution
Literate PD Khan aims to train young volunteers, and raise awareness through campaigns about the constitutional right to education (Article 25-A). It also plans to design a teacher training program and use sports as a tool to cultivate learning about life skills among students. The project additionally proposes to include low-income mothers of school children in an adult literacy program.
Impact
The project seeks to improve literacy rates in the district and increase retention rates of school children. This will contribute to ensuring inclusive and equitable quality education while promoting lifelong learning opportunities for all.
