Thematic Focus

Emergency Medical Response through CSOs

The Problem

Nigeria does not have a well-structured or functional pre-hospital trauma care system and consequently, there is a delay in the arrival of trained medical emergency personnel at accident scenes. There is also a limited number of personnel available for emergency services. As a result, every year over 39,000 people die in road crashes according to a World Health Organization report. Nigeria also has a high heart disease death rate with 100 deaths per 100,000 people.

The Solution

The I-responder mobile application notifies first responders during an emergency to initiate lifesaving treatment prior to the arrival of professional emergency responders. The project also plans to train 100 students in first responder life-saving skills. I-responder aims to reduce post-crash fatalities and other related medical emergencies through its digital innovation and technology. The project provides everyone with an opportunity to reach out for emergency medical services.

Impact

The I-responder seeks to reduce pre-hospital emergency deaths in Nigeria and contributes to the good health and wellbeing of Nigerians through digital innovation. The project also aims to reduce inequalities in access to emergency medical services.
