In Togo, about 40% of pregnant women do not use health facility services to monitor their pregnancy and less than a third of pregnant women, who consult for pregnancy monitoring, actually complete the four minimum appointments recommended by the World Health Organization. As a result, these women do not receive any quality medical follow-up, which can have significant repercussions for the health of the mother and the future baby. Among adolescents and young people, studies show that poor access to information and health services from qualified care providers significantly impacts their sexual and reproductive health.
The Solution
eCONVIVIAL is a digital platform that offers information and services (online assistance, STI check-ups, family planning, menstrual cycle monitoring, etc.) mainly to young people for their sexual and reproductive health needs. It also offers pregnancy check-ups until delivery in a public health centre. The project is currently being deployed internationally and an online store is being developed to offer sanitary products (menstrual care and underwear) which would create a source of income to sustain the organization's activities.
Impact
The project contributes to the promotion of good health and wellbeing as well as gender equality in Togo. It uses information and communication technology to ensure access to reproductive healthcare services among women, adolescents and young people.
