33% of Nigeria’s working population is currently unemployed with the country being only 2nd to South Africa in high unemployment rates on the continent. A large chunk of Nigeria’s youth is jobless, angry and restless. Most educational institutions do not equip young people with relevant employability and business skills that are needed to compete economically. This results in millions of youth who are not just unemployed but also unemployable, leaving them in poverty.
The Solution
DesignU.io, an edtech innovation by NerdzFactory, is a platform designed to improve the economic outcomes and learning opportunities for young people by equipping them with requisite and in-demand digital and soft skills while also connecting them with economic opportunities including jobs, internships, freelancing and gig opportunities. Through the platform, young people have gone ahead to gain a variety of skills and commence digital and creative careers in web design, graphic design, product design, digital marketing, product management, etc. Some of the features that makes DesignU stand out are: course levels, accredited certifications, personalized user experiences, Q&A section, etc. With additional funding, they plan to expand to other countries in Africa.
Impact
Through DesignU.io, we promote skill development and create economic development opportunities for young people, including girls. This provides access to quality education and promotes gender equality, as well as decent work and economic opportunities.
